9 Abbey Churchyard · Bath · UK Jewellery Awards 2026 finalist

A bespoke goldsmith, yards from the Abbey's west front.

Jody Cory runs the shop and the workshop as the same room, on Abbey Churchyard, opposite the Roman Baths. Four trained goldsmiths share that bench: Jody (35 years, diamond grader), Scott (30 years, Hatton Garden trained), Milly (recycled-metal specialist), Georgia (laser welding). Engagement, wedding and commemorative rings, made on the premises in recycled gold.

WHAT WE MAKE

Four lines of work. One bench. One Abbey Churchyard address.

Bespoke commissions

From sketch to set stone, every commission made at the bench behind the shop. Recycled gold, white gold, platinum, palladium, titanium; rare gemstones personally chosen by Jody. We work with you as much or as little as you want, from a one-line brief to a full design sit-down.

Engagement, wedding & commitment rings

Bath's commissioned-ring specialism. We make one-off engagement rings, matched wedding bands, eternity rings, anniversary commissions and commemorative pieces. Free design service. Resizing turned around the same day where the work allows.

Remodel & repair

Heirloom rings melted down and remade. Broken chains relinked. Stones reset. Rhodium plating, restringing, valuations. Bring in the box of unworn rings at the back of the drawer, we will show you what one new piece could look like.

Permanent jewellery

Pick a chain, pick a charm, the chain is laser-welded around your wrist with no clasp. Five minutes at the bench. Georgia leads the welds. Sister-pair, mother-daughter, bridesmaids, or a quiet single line for yourself.

MEET THE BENCH

Four goldsmiths, one room behind the shop.

Jody Cory

Designer, goldsmith, diamond grader

Over 35 years at the bench. NAJ member. Completed her Diamond Grading course in 2008, so she advises on the four C's in person.

Scott

Goldsmith, platinum and complex metals

Over 30 years at the bench. Trained at the bench by his father, with a Hatton Garden background before joining the Abbey Churchyard workshop.

Milly

Goldsmith, recycled-metal pieces

Ten years at the bench. Founder of Cami-Lou Designs. Hand-textured, one-of-a-kind work in recycled gold and silver.

Georgia

Goldsmith, laser-welding specialist

Graduate of the University of Edinburgh, jewellery and silversmithing. Leads the permanent-jewellery laser welds.

The bench is on the premises, not subcontracted. The customer who walks in with a broken heirloom on a Wednesday lunchtime can watch the work begin.

THE WORKSHOP · 1990s TO TODAY

1990s. Jody Cory trains as a goldsmith.

In 2008 she takes her Diamond Grading qualification. In February 2009 Jody Cory Goldsmiths Limited is registered at 9 Abbey Churchyard, Bath. The shop and the workshop are the same room from day one. Recycled gold, ethically-sourced gemstones, every commission made on the premises.

Seventeen years on, Jody works the bench alongside Scott (Hatton Garden trained, platinum specialist), Milly (recycled-metal, hand-textured pieces) and Georgia (Edinburgh-trained, laser welding). Four goldsmiths, one room behind the shop. The Bespoke Jeweller of the Year finalist nomination at the 2026 UK Jewellery Awards is the latest in a nine-year run of national recognition.

THE BENCH · ON THE PREMISES

Designed, cast, set and finished within the shop's four walls.

The bench is in the back room of 9 Abbey Churchyard, not a Hatton Garden subcontract. Every commission is sketched with the customer (in person on the counter, with paper and a 4H pencil), modelled in wax or CAD where the design calls for it, cast in recycled gold, set with stones Jody has personally chosen, and finished by hand. The shop and the workshop are the same room.

  • Recycled gold throughout. The bench works exclusively in recycled gold, in line with the National Association of Jewellers ethical-sourcing standard. Fairmined and Welsh gold available on request at the design stage.
  • Diamond grading in person. Jody completed her Diamond Grading course in 2008. The four C's (cut, clarity, colour, carat) are talked through against the actual stone, on the counter, not from a chart.
  • Platinum and complex metals. Scott specialises in platinum, palladium, titanium and the alloys that fight the torch. Bring in a piece another bench has turned away, and we will tell you whether we can take it on.
  • Laser-welded permanent jewellery. Georgia leads the laser welds for permanent bracelets, anklets and necklaces. Five minutes at the bench, fitted to slide comfortably, worn full-time.

FAQ · FIVE QUESTIONS WE ARE ASKED MOST

Quick answers, then come in and we will sketch.

How does the bespoke design process work, and how long from first chat to finished ring?

Come in for a free design appointment, or send us a one-line brief by email. We sketch with you (in person if you can come in, by email if you cannot), agree the metal and the stones, and quote on the spot or within a working day. From signed-off sketch to finished, set piece is usually 4 to 6 weeks for a ring, longer for complex set pieces. Rush jobs around weddings, anniversaries and Christmas: ask us, we have done seven days more than once.

I have a box of unworn gold rings from my grandmother. Can you remodel them into one piece?

Yes, and this is some of the work we love most. Bring the box in. We weigh the gold, talk through what you would like the new piece to feel like, and sketch on the spot. The original stones can be re-set into the new piece, swapped, or kept aside. Everything is melted down and worked at the bench here, not sent off.

Can you resize my engagement ring while I wait?

Often yes, depending on the work. A simple gold band can be resized the same day, sometimes within the hour if the bench is clear. Anything with stones, fine pavé, or unusual settings is quoted by sight: we want to be sure the stones are safe before we promise a turnaround. Bring it in any day we are open and we will tell you what is possible before we touch it.

How does permanent jewellery work? Does the chain ever come off?

You pick a chain (gold, gold-fill or sterling) and an optional charm. Georgia laser-welds the chain around your wrist, ankle or neck, with no clasp. It is sized to slide comfortably and to be worn full-time, including in the shower and the sea. If you ever want it off, snip with scissors at the weld. We can re-weld a clean chain back on.

Where do you source your gold and gemstones?

All gold worked at the bench is recycled gold, in line with the National Association of Jewellers ethical-sourcing position. Gemstones are personally chosen by Jody from suppliers she has worked with for years, with the four C's (cut, clarity, colour, carat) discussed openly on every diamond commission. If a particular provenance matters to you (Fairmined, Welsh gold, a specific mine), tell us at the design stage and we will source against it.
